Aromatic herbs have been used for over 5,000 years. The Egyptians used these in their everyday lives as did the Romans and the greeks. They were used in baths, ceremonies and rituals and for embalming, Remember when Jesus dies, wasn't he was anointed with herbs and spices?Today we use them in much the same way. We use them for massage, in baths and for inhalation and for antiseptic purposes. Most people don't understand why or how they work, well what goes up the nose goes into the lungs and is circulated round the body via the blood stream. The same applies when putting them into your bath but it enters the body via the skin.
The essential oils are extracted from the plant either by distillation or by squeezing by hand or mechanically, as in the case of citrus fruits.
Aromatherapy has great benfits when used in massage. For every illness or ailment there is an oil that help if not even cure the roblem. These oils are very beneficial for:
Migraines
Arthritis
Menopause
PMT
Depression
Skin tonics
Sinus problems
Insomnia
Hair loss
Dandruff
Acne and Eczema
The list is endless.
If you are going to use these yourself at home for massage purposes they must always be mixed with a carrier oil. such as Grapeseed oil. Never use essential oils undiluted, with the exception of use in the bath when you would use them neat.
A few drops in your bath can work wonders, well you know the old saying. 'don't knock it untill you've tried it''
Nature's Little Helper
The Olfactory System
Smell (olfaction) has always been one of the most important human senses. It is used to detect the presence of vital aspects concerning basis survival, such as food. enemies and the opposite sex
When essential oils are inhaled the tiny molecules are taken directly to the roof of the nose where the receptor cells of the olfactory system are situated. Each receptor cell protrudes thin hairs which is called CILLIA. The cillia hairs register and transmit the information about the aroma's via the olfactory bulb, to the centre of the brain. From here electrochemical messages are sent to the parts of the brain associated with smell. These trigger the release of neurochemicals which may be sedative, relaxing, stimulating or euphoric in effect. Aromatic molecules also travel down to the nasal passages to the lungs where they are diffesed into the bloodstream via the lungs.

If you look in my 'holiday' photo section, you will see me and my husband covered in the most therapeutic mud in the world. It comes from the 'dead sea'. I know it's a terrible photo but it was worth it.
The dead sea is the lowest point on earth and is full of minerals and nutrients and the mud is just as concentrated. You can buy the most expensive creams and lotions on the market but none of them have the therapeutic qualities that this mud has.
After only 20 minutes my skin was so clean, soft and smooth. Infact, the water is so concentrated that next morning four of my toenails fell off but the new ones that grew back are twice as strong.
You can buy 'dead sea' products from any health shop but as they have been treated with preservatives the quality is very poor and I should know, I've had the real thing. Let me prove this, when you but the dead sea soap, you will see that it is black, well that's a load of rubbish because the mud is actually GREY, you can see this from photo.
